Burma - Burma, officially the Union of Myanmar, is the largest country by geographical area in Indochina (mainland Southeast Asia). The country of Myanmar in South-East Asia was formerly known as Burma until 1989. The former capital of Rangoon is now known as Yangon and is the chief port. The principal language of the country is Burmese and is a Buddhist country. Burma achieved independence from British colonial rule and also let the commonwealth. The country is predominantly covered by rainforests and the main rivers are Irrawaddy and Chindwin.
The country has always had political turmoil and is military republic. Martial Law was declared in 1989 when the country’s name was changed. The military offensive s continued leading to the arrest of the opposition leader Aung San Suu Ayi who also received the Nobel Peace Prize.
Myanmar has been attempting to change its global image and trying to position itself in the main streams of nations. Mandalay - is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Burma. Located 445 miles (716 km) north of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River, the city has a population of one million, and is the capital of Mandalay Division. Mandalay has a diverse ethnic population with the majority being composed of Bamars although lately there has been an influx of people from China giving the place a very diverse outlook. Other groups include the Thais, Indians and people from Laos. Mandalay is well connected by air and train to many cities of the region.
Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar after the capital city of Yangon. Not much is known of Mandalay but this happens to be a relatively rich city. Most of the monks of this country can be found here and its wide streets are packed with thousands of people on bicycles. It was a city known for its splendor with buildings made of wood. That entire splendor is now gone. A devastating fire consumed most of the wooden st Indonesia - officially the Republic of Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia with its capital at Jakarta. It has a population close to 200 million and is the world’s fourth populous country surpassed only by China, India and the US. It has a largest population of Muslims in the world. The main exports of this country are rubber, coffee, minerals, oil, timber, tea and tobacco. The official language of Indonesia is Bahasa which is a language closely related to Malai though various other regional languages are also spoken. It is a country that is prone to earthquakes and the country has seen the devastating effects of many powerful earthquakes including the one in the recent past which triggered off the massive Tsunami killing hundreds of thousands of people.
Indonesia has been making concerted efforts to change its image as a multi-cultural and racial society. In this effort it has proved itself a successful and is these days viewed as a very tolerant country for one and all.
